Actually it's a conference rule as set forth by the state. Even if a student has an address in a particular district once the initial change takes place as is in this case the student must sit 365 before he's eligible. If a student moves into a particular student moves into a particular district and opts to stay at former school the school in the new district is supposed to release him. However that's not always enforced.

Had a kid in 2013 transfer from East to North. Couldn't play until the next season came around. Had to wait a year before being eligible to do any sports for North. Experienced this so I know its true. Unless rules has changed since 2013.

Are you sure he doesn't live in the Central district? From what I've been told, he went to Central Wilkes Middle and elementary schools prior to going to North his freshman year. Not sure on the validity of that. If it ever comes down to a decision by the county AD, it would be denied for obvious reasons.

I'm not trying to make anyone look bad. Just giving the facts. Its a shame the kid didn't have his stuff together because from what I hear he's a good back and could really help North. I don't know a lot about them this year other than hearing they are down.

k. Any student who is reassigned to a school of choice who thereafter elects to return to a school within his/her attendance area of domicile shall be ineligible to participate in any athletic program for a period of 365 days. Exceptions for immediate athletic eligibility will be heard in accordance with subsection l below. l. Any appeal of, or objection to, a reassignment decision based upon an athletic eligibility issue or any appeal of the 365 day athletic ineligibility period mandated in subsections i, j, or k above shall be submitted in writing to the Superintendent of the Wilkes County Schools. The Superintendent shall designate a committee composed of the county Athletic Director and the athletic directors of the middle schools or the high schools (dependant upon the age of the student) not involved in the reassignment. The committee shall establish a time to hear the appeal and make a recommendation to the Superintendent for a final decision.
That is the Wilkes County policy for transfers.

Wilkes County makes no exemptions on this. He was assigned to be at North Wilkes due to his address and Morth Wilkes is were he must stay to play unless he moves. I'm educated more than you will probably ever be.

And because his residency is not in the Central district he is ineligible.

You are the one that needs to educate yourself. On that site it plainly states it is up to the local school board on residency. They can also hold a hearing according to the school boards website and grant exemptions to these rules

State has a lot of loopholes these days. If they didn't kids would be transferring left and right.

All he would need is a relative in the central district and use that address. As long as he is residing at the address he is good to go.

Well what you have heard may he true but even if his attitude would have been great he would not have been eligible due to the state rule. His family physically has to pack up and move into a residence in Wilkes Centrals district, which they did not.

Not disagreeing with that aspect, EWfan. Just stating he is young. Kids make mistakes and sometimes punishment or lessons like this need to be instilled. Hope he gets a chance to prove himself. The kid is talented.

No critique just stating facts. He got into it with his coaches at North from the outset at a scrimmage. The problems continued at practice and he quit the team. Relocated to Central and was going to play but AD from North pressed the issue because of his attitude. He admitted to his teammates at North that he messed up and that is the facts. He just needs to improve his attitude and he could be a great asset to any team.

I agree. Hopefully he gets a chance to get out there and prove himself if everything works out.

Its a state issue guys. Trust me. You can't play at another school unless you establish residence in that district. He lives in the North district thus has to sit out a year. He will be eligible next year if he stays. Quit listening to this hearsay you here from Joe at the country store.

He's a sophomore in high school. Not the appropriate place to critique a teenager. Grow up. The reason you care is because you're worried about Central.
