Surry Community College is hosting Celebrating Surry! a Community Open House and Concert in honor of its 50th Anniversary on Friday, June 6, on the Dobson campus. The event is free of charge, open to the public, and will be held rain or shine.
The Open House will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a live concert from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring The Carolina Breakers Band in the Knights Grill courtyard at the center of campus. The Carolina Breakers play a variety of music including Motown, beach, funk, R&B, and special requests. They received the Carolina Beach Music Award for Favorite New Artist of 2011 and collectively have over ten #1 hits over the past four years.
Surry has been the collegiate heartbeat of this region since 1964 and has changed the life path for generations of students. It is our hope that the community will join us to celebrate this most important milestone in the history of Surry Community College. It will be a time to celebrate the 2014 campus with its renovated Student Services office, Veterans Center and Academic Support Center, recently dedicated Betty Kay Vaughn Bell Tower, the newly constructed Industrial Training Center and the 2010 Shelton-Badgett NC Center for Viticulture and Enology. Come be a part of CELEBRATING SURRY! said Marion Venable, Executive Director of the SCC Foundation.
Music goers should bring a chair. Food and drinks will be provided during the concert. No coolers, alcoholic beverages or pets are allowed. Surry Community College is a tobacco-free campus.
