Also, to do a brisket properly by smoking it, you really need the whole brisket, not those little things sold in the grocery store. You need the point for burnt ends.

I didn't really think about that, but it makes sense. Making my own brisket seems like huge overkill, and it's really out of my league

Brisket isnt an easy thing to do on a smoker. If you go too fast, its tough as shoe leather. Its my least enjoyable cut to work with. And Id never leave a smoker unattended unless you have a good safe area like a concrete patio away from the house, and then a good fire control system on the smoker.

we paid 200.00 dollars for ours at Lowes and its paid for itself many times over.....though I warn you, it will piss off your neighbors for the first few hours as thats when the smoke is thicker.


and we use apple chips, just soak them in water for awhile.

Now that you mention it, my grill does say that it can be used as a smoker, I've just never used that feature. Besides, I work all day, so smoking something for 14 hours would mean leaving a fire going unsupervised for several hours

Anti, if you really wanted to, you could buy a small, inexpensive smoker from Lowe's that uses charcoal or woodchips. A smoker doesn't have to be large and expensive

Thanks, Rose, but I was hoping to find a smoked brisket I don't have a smoker, and a good one is usually smoked for 12-14 hours.

I might try Tiptons, they're close to home and are usually pretty good. I don't go there often since they switched to the weird metal trays, but the barbecue was always decent so it's worth a shot

Little Richards is good off and on. Inconsistent. It’s a long drive home the times it’s dry and not good. Tiptons is the same. Seems like it may be how long it’s sitting around cooked. Last night I got brisket which seemed almost stewed and the onion rings which are very good with their roumalade sauce.

**** if you need someone to cook it for you. I'll cook it for yha, for 10 bucks. You bring me what you want on it and need for it. And I slow cook the sucker for you. But it's a easy process, plus the fat on it. Leaves a delicious juice you can use to put it on sandwiches and sauces with.

What are the odd that I have cooked up one lol. Beef Briskets are easy to make, just buy you one. Use a crock pot, then dry rub it, inject it with some marinade. Let it set for a couple of hrs. Put it in the crock pot, slow cook it for a few hrs and you talk about a party there. I sometimes make some brown gravy to go with it.

Actually, the best bbq comes from hole in the wall dives.

Way too many places have brisket that is very fatty and slimy from the fat and grease. I’ve never had that at Pedalin Pig. It’s always been good. However, last time I had their ribs, I was a bit disappointed. They had gone down hil from when they opened.

If Affy says it's good then I guess it's definitely worth the trip to Boone! He doesn't eat at anything less than a 4 star restaurant, so I'm excited to try this one

Texas Land & Cattle used to have a really good one in Winston, but now they're closed. I don't think any of the local steakhouses have a brisket. Maybe I'll try the Smokehouse... I'm usually not that big of a fan of the place, but if no one else has one then it's worth a try!

Brushy Mountain Smokehouse has an open faced roast beef sandwich that's cooked in a pressure cooker and comes as close to a good brisket as I've found.

Does anyone know of a restaurant in Wilkes, Surry, or Yadkin that has a really good beef brisket? I don't really have a way of making one of my own, but I watched Young Sheldon last week and have been craving it ever since!
