Don't have much of a feel for the girls but here is my pass at the boys

1. Alleghany

2. Starmount

3. West Wilkes

4. Ashe

5. Elkin

6. Wilkes Central

7. East

8 North

Would expect Santos to repeat as player of the year and other candidates would be Sprinkle, Greer, and King

Hawki I agree with you on the boys side of your predictions but I like Carter and Walters for COY and POY on the girls side.

With the talent that Shumate had coming back this year it would have been a huge surprise if North had lost a game.

Winning when you are supposed to win is not an extrodinary feat, but taking a 7th place team from last year to no worse than a tie for the conference championship like McKnight did is an accomplishment.

These are my predictions....
coach of yr: Mcknight Alleghany (boys) and Shumate North Wilkes (girls)
player of yr: Santos Alleghany (boys) and Shumate North Wilkes (girls)

Does anyone know when or if the last reg season game will played?

with 1 regular season game to play, it looks like the conference champs are: alleghany boys and north wilkes girls.
Alleghany boys big surprise and north wilkes no surprise

best of luck to all teams.

Well after tonight, there are only two scenarios that can happen at the top of the Mountain Valley Conference. Either Alleghany will win the conference outright, or they will co-champs with Starmount. Coincidentally they play each other or are supposed to play each other on Friday night at Alleghany. Congratulations to coach Tommy McKnight and his Trojans on securing at least a share of the regular season conference championship Way to go 1a teams. Last year Elkin, and this year Alleghany or Alleghany and Starmount. The question is, who will secure the 1 seed for the 2a teams. Ashe and West both lost tonight, and North plays Starmount tomorrow night

Went I was in school if the weather cancel the last week of the regular season, we would cancel the conference tournament. They might do this!!

Anyone seeing the same forecast that I am. 4 days of snow predicted this week, and the superintendents propensities to cancel games does not look like a good scenario for games to be played this week. Could the season be over now? Or will there be games played this week. I have heard that a lot of games scheduled for Tuesday have been moved to Monday, but that does not look particularly good now either.

Has anyone else besides me noticed who has been sitting on the bench for West Wilkes (Boys Varsity)? I asked around and found out he has been doing this since Christmas and has even been in the locker room. As a former West Wilkes student I must ask why would you want Cantrell back on the sideline as a coach?

How many of you would have expected the standings to look like they look at this stage of the season. two 1a teams battling it out for the top spot with 1 week to go. It is still possible for one of the 2a teams to sneak back into a tie at the top if they win out, starmount loses one, and Alleghany loses both games next week. Hard to believe all these scenarios would play themselves out, but you never know. No matter how this all works out, it has been a very competitive conference this year. One week left in the season, and 5 teams that have a chance to tie for the top spot in the conference

Wow what a log jam among the 2a teams. 3 2a teams are tied for third in the conference with 1 week to play. Looks like there will be a lot riding on the games next week if the snow stays away long enough for any games to be played next week.

I did not say anything about sheets for MVP. I said if there were 10 that made all conference then he might be toward the bottom of that group.

Wilkes67 that was very well said. Far to many people are on here to bash or take something away from someone that they are working so hard to achieve. Whether it is the players or the coaches, respect the effort that they are putting in while it would be so much easier for them not to.

Goduke1966: Biggest disappointment: Alleghany? Really...are you kidding me? How can a school with less than 500 kids that is leading the conference be a disappointment? Our Wilkes County schools have always dominated them and I commend them for their hard work and determination. Sprinkle and Santos deserve all-conference honors. We should never take away the hard work that any athlete or team just because of jealousy. Great job boys!
