Technically the didn't and then technically they did. They finished with the same conference record but beat Starmount head to head. That was my point. Apologies for not clarifying.

In football and baseball maybe, Elkin is behind year to year. Finished ahead of Starmount in football and baseball this season. Starmount isn't some powerhouse in basketball. In fact the conference has been wide open for a while. North Wilkes, Ashe, Elkin, Alleghany, Starmount and Central have all won/shared the title recently if I'm not mistaken.

I guess I really only look at football, basketball and baseball and usually they are pretty far behind. I think they may be having a little better year in baseball this year.

We've had this conversation on here before, Elkin has finished above Starmount I think three years running now.

Its the Wells Fargo Cup standings that measure overall athletic competition in conferences and the state.

Elkin will finish about Starmount again this season as well.

Does anyone know the actual number of state championships Starmount has had (wrestling, track, football, volleyball, softball, etc) versus the number of state championships Wilkes Central has had? It would be interesting to find out. I know Starmount has had several in track and a few in wrestling the last few years.

Lol good try mustard. What is your infatuation with Wilkes County teams? How about Starmount starts competing in all sports before we talk smack. It's sad that a school half the size of starmount in elkin has a better athletic program than Starmount. Wilkes county has won a state championship this year. Has starmount?

What matters is they are in. If you want to know who got shafted, look at the 1A soccer teams that didn't get in but a team with a 0-17 record did aka Alleghany.

Why is it that every time something doesn't go to suit someone supporting a Wilkes County team they either got "shafted" or "cheated"? To be the best you have to beat the best at some point. It is all fair. At least you did not get sent to the beach.

They didn't get the shaft. In order to get a high seed you must finish 1st or 2nd overall in a split conference or be the top ranked team in your class. West finished 3rd overall so Central got the top seed out of the conference. After all 1 seeds and 2 seeds as well as 3 seeds from from 1A conference are seeded then everyone else is. Its complicated but they are in the right spot.

Finished 17-3 in regular season and get a 17 seed in the west. They have to travel to Randleman and play a 12-10 team. If they win they will most likely be playing #1 seed Forbush.
