So hatepolitics please explain to me what that looks like. Are there currently players on the West Wilkes varsity boys that are getting playing time that they do not deserve? (Please do not name names) If so how was that arranged? I hear the kids with money card played all the time. Are they making donations to the school and the principal is making it happen? Are they making donations to the AD and he is making it happen? Or is he simply slipping coach Greene an extra c-note hear and there (LOL)? How does money make these things happen? I have always wondered, and sit here hat in hand wanting someone to explain the mechanics of this to me. I want to know so that I can make sure to get a job at the appropriate level to receive these payments.

Of course the above is in jest. Players play because they earn the time. You may not understand how they earn the time. It may have been extra gym time during the summer, going to camp, weight room time or that little bit of extra hustle in practice. You wont always know the reasons, but unless you can convince me that their is an elaborate payment plan (see above) I can assure you it is not based on how much money their father has.

Oldblue. They are talking about West High. Once in a while they have a kid come through that really shines . Do to improper inbreeding that upholds the West High tradition . They never get that chance. These kids that get to shine are bought and paid for by daddy . It shows believe you me it shows . Through crowns , awards, and even scholarships. The sad thing is when they look at all the junk that daddy bought them over the years and one of their own grandkids asks. Did you win that? With a fake smlie they can say yeah. Knowing in their heart daddy bought it for them and they have lived a lie their whole lives. Sad huh. Such wonderful DADDYS. they are the GREATEST. You are right oldblue the coaches wont to win. But its another Game they are playing. It's all about Daddys almighty wallet.

To be totally honest, the whole Daddy Ball excuse grows a bit tiring to me. I have never known a coach that does not play to win. Playing to win involves putting who you believe to be your best players in a position to help you win. We and I said we because I am a father also, have raised a generation of kids that think they are entitled to things. They are entitled to expensive clothes, a fancy car when they turn 16, and yes playing time on the varsity team whether or not they have earned it. Experience tells me that the best way to change playing time is not by bad mouthing the coach or pouting. You change playing time through extra effort. You get in the weight room, or the gym, or both in the offseason. You change your body and you change your skill set, and the playing time will come with it. It is very difficult as parents for us to be able to see the truth about the skill levels of our kids and their teammates, and the easy way out is to blame it on the coach. As a group of parents, if we would put the same effort into providing opportunities for our kids to improve their games, the level of athletics will improve, I promise, and there will not need to be a coaching change to make that happen.

Twicebroken, are you related to the North Wilkes principal? She has the rec ball mentality. You should come to North. You would get along great with her. You would also like the boys basketball coach too. He's adopting that same philosophy. Let's all get a trophy. Let's not even keep score anymore.

Twicebroken you should be ashamed of yourself coming on this forum and putting down the mighty West Wilkes inept coaches. Surely you lived here long enough to know if daddy ain't coaching, you ain't playing. That whole organization is evil.

Sorry twicebroken but once you reach the varsity level in a sport, the rec ball rules are gone. The job of the varsity coach at any school is to be as competitive as he can with the talent that he has on his team. It is unreasonable to expect a coach to lose a game or blow a lead without his best players in the game. I can assure the AD will get involved in that. Rec ball rules of everybody plays and everybody gets a trophy are just that rec ball rules. Sorry but that is just life.

As a fan of all basketball teams in Wilkes County, the most negative and discouraging thing I have witnessed concerning our Varsity boys basketball teams is the playing time of the some of the team members involved with the West Wilkes Boys Varsity program. This should be addressed immediately by the AD or whom ever is in charge of the Varsity program. After attending several games of all the county teams it occurs to me that the West Wilkes Boys Varsity team has some issues with fairness to the players. It is quite obvious that some of the players are not treated as part of the team. I understand it's about winning, but its also about sportsmanship and setting an example for the kids. No matter the level of talent if a young man is makes the team he should be allowed ample playing time.
