Which is sad, really. Without newspapers, how are we supposed to get unbiased news?

I can remember when the Journal Patriot showed pictures of every car accident, ever baby that was born, every fight that was fought on tenth and main street, every traffic violation, court docket and so on. I reckon the days of patting the street to get news is just made up in the newspaper office now. No wonder their suffering. You can get more news on GoWilkes and WXII about Wilkes county than you can from the Journal Patriot.

I remember a couple of years ago some guy that lived out on Bethel Road near Ronda went postal, set a house on fire, and opened fire on some of Wilkes deputies. Instead of going out to the scene of the crime they stood in the street and took a picture of the black smoke on the horizon up the river. There's never a crime section in their paper. The JP reports more about what's going on down there.

The Elkin paper has really gone downhill in recent years. It’s more of a town newsletter now. The writer generally prints press releases from local groups as news. It’s a far cry from the days of Rebel Goode (sp ?).

I hope not, I love newspapers, true they have too many ads, which shows they have many companies which still support them.

In the late 1970's I worked with a news paper chain that was worth over 20 billion dollars but sold in the 1990's for lor less then 600 million dollars. News papers have gone the way of mall game rooms.

They should. They only write 1 or 2 stories a week.

Thereby saving many trees from a pointless death.
