Surry has first case of Coronavirus

Wilkes was among about 35 North Carolina counties still with no confirmed cases of COVID-19 cases by 11 a.m. Thursday, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported.

DHHS reported that there were 636 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide by 11 a.m. Thursday, up 26% from 504 by 11 a.m. Wednesday. The state had 12,910 completed tests by 11 a.m. Thursday, up 23% from 10,489 the prior day.

Surry County's first confirmed case was announced late Wednesday. Watauga and Caldwell counties also have confirmed cases.

The state's first two deaths from COVID-19 were reported Wednesday and no additional deaths were reported Thursday.
