Surry County's 250th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration

Six years before the United States was established, Surry County North Carolina was founded in 1770. The county will mark its 250th anniversary with a 12-month long sestercentennial celebration starting this spring.
The first major event of the sestercentennial is a May 2nd kickoff celebration on the square of the historic county courthouse in downtown Dobson. Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend this free event to enjoy live music, food trucks, children's activities and heaping servings of sonker, Surry County's unique heritage dessert.
There will be booths with historical displays and tradesman practicing heritage arts. A highlight will be a Revolutionary War 18th Century living history exhibit.
Music will be provided by: Nunn Brothers, Slate Mountain Ramblers, Melva Houston, Anna Mertson and Mickey Galyean.

2:00-3:15: Slate Mountain Ramblers (old time)
3:30-4:15: Anna Mertson (country)
4:30-6:00: Mickey Galyean and Cullen’s Bridge (bluegrass)
