MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (Sept. 1, 2018) – As summer comes to a close and children start school, it’s the perfect time for parents to prepare for a child’s first cellphone. Although each family’s guidelines may be different, it’s important to have a conversation around internet safety to ensure devices are used appropriately. According to a recent U.S. Cellular survey, among those with children, 52 percent have a child with a cellphone primarily for safety reasons.

U.S. Cellular will host a free Device Workshop in Mount Airy on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. at 752 S. Andy Griffith Parkway, where associates will recommend tips for parents to encourage healthy cellphone usage with their children. The workshop is open to everyone, and attendees do not need to be a U.S. Cellular customer to attend.

“We recognize the importance of families communicating with children about cellphone safety and etiquette along with the responsibility that comes with having one of their own,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in western North Carolina. “Our associates are available to assist parents in guiding the conversation and ensuring the transition goes smoothly.”
