i knew the family its a sad story and i wish something would have been done before a life was lost, Besides what happened the police shouldve done something i mean 78 times is 77 too many i know from personal accounts enless u choose to press charges nothing will be done, but after 78 times yeah i feel the police could have stepped in and lives wouldnt have been ruined. Now a family is ****tered and a young boy will never be the same its sad but i just want everyone to keep everyone in their prayers!!!!!

Sad story all together....And empowers i read your post ,sorry that you and your brother had to go through that ...but glad your brother did not go to jail ,i think he did the right thing i just hope that your mother don't hole either of you responsible for his death.I am really sorry that you and your brother will remember that sad and awful part of your life forever ,But now that you both are older i pray that old memory has faded away at least alot more then when you was a child ,just keep in mind that you still have your Mother it could of been her on that stretcher going to the hospital gladly it was'nt.Remember your brother did what he did to save his mother and i hope your mother realizes that too .empowers thank you for shareing your story with me and i hope that you and your brother have a bond that cannot be broken i also hope that your mother is still around today i think anyone is very lucky to have a Mother today i would give anything to have mine close to me .Best wishes to you and your'es today and hope you live the rest of your life happy with alot of blessings .

Sorry your family had and are still having to live with that awful situation, empowers. I really believe if we could find a way to better help situations like you had to experience, we would see America as a whole become better. May God give us the wisdom and the leaders to help!

There are actually laws out there that protect the abusive spouse/partner in lots of situations. I really don't think that people are really aware of how detrimental it can be to the family, especially the children.

My brother had to make a decision like that. He stabbed my stepfather after he shoved my mom down and was going to stab her. I looked away when he raised the knife to stab her. My brother grabbed the knife and stabbed him with it. He died later at the hospital.
Being 9 years old at the time, it affected me. For years afterward every time I would see a knife laying out I would hide it so when my mom couldn't find a knife she know to ask me where it was. Also, my brother had nightmares for years. My step-dad, as they were taking him out on the stretcher, told my brother that if he died he would come back to haunt him. My brother was only 16 at the time. He was not arrested as it was determined he had stabbed him out of self defense. They had to take into consideration the threats. My step-dad had also threatened to kill the whole family. Sad time for all!
Can't believe there was no one to help that young man. I am with you on the questions....why after 78 responses by the LEO's was it allowed to keep on? I say, don't blame it on the youngin. It almost sounds like the whole thing was pre-arranged to happen to hopefully destroy that young man's life. Let that young man go! Took a lot of doing to push him into the kind of desperation, apparently 78 times over the past 5 years! Where was DSS all this time? What good are they? Tell you who needs to go to court, the boy's mother, (if you can call her that) and DSS.

The article referred to the last 5 years which would put the child at 10 or 12 years old then. No telling how long it was going on before that. I feel so bad for him. No telling what he saw and heard his whole life. Should we really be surprised when people freak out and shoot people and commit other haneous crimes. We suppose to be our brothers keeper and as a society we failed many times in situations just like this. Maybe our Goverment should start focusing on helping at the home level and probably everything else would be better too.. I'm thru now..

If he already had multiple charges of assault on his record a 50B order wasn't going to deter him. I believe it's very unfair to second guess why the wife and child stayed. Domestic problems are very complicated at times and often are a life- long occurrence. I guess it would shock us to really know what people all around us are having to live in and with. It's easy for us to say just leave. I believe if it were that easy every one that was in that situation would do that very thing. I thank God for my family!

Restraining orders are a piece of paper that can anger the abuser to step over the line.
Restraining orders aren't worth the piece of paper, they are wrote on, unless, that person agress to follow it. If a person is set out to do you harm, all the restraining orders in the world, won't protect you.

Wrestling grandpa, sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that make it impossible to leave. The shelters are not always the right thing or available at the time of crisis. The most dangerous time for a woman is if she actually tries to leave. Restraining orders are a piece of paper that can anger the abuser to step over the line.

| Mtnbiker (view profile) | Posted 8:48 pm, 08/27/2012 | | Could be the mother wouldn't cooperate prosecuting him | Maybe so in the past, but anymore, the state won't dismiss those charges most of the time. Because, people change their minds about prosecuting

I thought the state would take over and press charges anyway in most domestic violence incidents?

Sadly I looks like the guy gets drunk or off balance about once a month. Beats his wife. Someone calls the cops. No one presses charges ... And the kid gets caught in the crossfire.
It went too far once too often.

a good question to ask the DA....so sad it had to come to this....do wonder why the two stayed or did not have the man ejected and have a court order to stay 1000 feet from both....

Just read the story on wxii12 web page of an incident in Mt. Airy Sunday eve which a teenager killed his mothers husband while he was assaulting her. The article states law enforcement has responded to, get this, 78, yes, seventy-eight, calls to this residence for help in the last 5 years and the husband had a history of assault charges. Here's my question.... How in the world did our justice system allow this young man to have to make this decision that will affect the rest of his life. Granted, We don't know the whole story but.... DANG!
