They said the mother was in hospital.. I'm afraid just knowing what happened to kids will be worse than ANY jail time.. I dont think she intentionally ment for this to happen & I think that this is the most horrible thing a parent can go threw.. My prayers with the family dealing with this terrible situation!

C'mon guys, please. We don't know why a generator was required and power wasn't on and it wouldn't change a thing if we did know. I can't imagine any punishment comparable to the loss of two children. Let's please stay above all the speculation and finger pointing and represent our community with class and compassion and support this family.

Dixie Cup (view profile) | Posted 7:37 pm, 10/03/2012 | AK, it was in the house and being used to power the refrigerator. |
If this is true the adults of the house need to goto jail for a number of things. It is common since that you do not run a generator in side the house this is just plain stupid

ALONE - thank you, well said, I couldn't agree more. This is an unimaginable tragedy that is going to affect a lot of people and that, and only that should be the focus.

Praying for this family and realizing all of us makes mistakes. Just happened this one happend to be a deadly mistake. We all are most fortunate that there are not more deaths from carbon monoxide, and fires because of so many people using petroleum products to heat, cook and travel.

If I read it correctly they had just moved into the home, and normal power service had not been turned on.. either way it's sad.

One of the saddest local news story I have read in awhile. My heart breaks for this family. I wish them grace and strength as they deal in the upcoming days.
Empowers really was what you posted called for? The news story on 3WC stated that the family had just recently moved to the location and that power had not been turned on yet. You made a broad assumption there deciding that they could not afford power and that it was not just a matter of timing for the company. At any rate whatever the reason this happened I myself hardly think this is the time nor the place to be bringing politics/society's woes into the conversation of grief.
In closing let me say to all who read or post to this thread if I was wrong for speaking my mind on empowers view I am sorry. I just felt this one time something needed to be said.

A couple of winters back a family in NC was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator that was placed under an open carport that was attached to the home. An extension cord was placed through a partially open window from the generator to the heat source inside. Enough of the CM was able to get through that small opening even though the generator was pretty much out in the open.

emp: "...When a society no longer cares for its most innocent, most dependent, most needful that society, in my opinion, has no right to be considered a society..."
Try to remember that statement the next time you engage in a thread about the needy and decide to trash anyone and everyone that gets assistance.

So what happened to all the money donated to the power companies for those who can't afford it? Just what did they do with all that money?
What happened to Social Services and other organizations that are supposed to help these people? This is a dark blot on our country, on our society. We need to help people in this country, not overseas somewhere! So bring it home!
When a society no longer cares for its most innocent, most dependent, most needful that society, in my opinion, has no right to be considered a society. And there is a possibility that all those moochers who could work that you hear about, who don't give a rip where the money comes from as long as it comes, have given charity such a bad name that even people who need and deserve help don't get it. So these moochers can bear some of the responsibility for the deaths of these two children.
