Does any Wilkes county team have a winning record?

You all REALLY do not know what's going on over there at WC on the football field and off with coach ( if that's what you want to call it ) Turner. He is a problem and has been a problem for some of the players. He is a ciach alright but he is not coaching tgem anything right. There are certain players he upholds and it causes disrespect between the players and coach. Heck they had four players to quit over the past two weeks. That has to say something. AD don't care about these kids or principal if they did red flags would be going up.

Where is all the negativity at today? I know Alleghany is a 1A school but they are solid. The Eagles played well. Congrats coach Turner and the rest of the staff! The line blocked well and Combs played a heck of a game. He made some impressive throws. #10 and #23 have been carrying the team but Bynum and Combs stepped up as well. Horton is a good athlete and needs to be on the field somewhere but Combs may have proved something last night. Good game Eagles! Finish strong and you may have a home playoff game.

In any football level, it's not about the X's and O's but the Jimmy's and Joe's. That pretty much sums up Wilkes County Football. We have two too many high schools!

WilkesObserver, is it possible that there is not as much talent as you say? In their game against Starmount when they got one score down they gave up. WC showed more speed than the Rams, but would not try to run down a ball carrier. When players just give up that makes the whole program (players and coaches) look bad. I am not a WC fan but I love football and hate to see a once great program drop so low.

You guys are getting pretty ridiculous. You do realize that the team starts 5 sophomores on offense and 4 on defense, sometimes more. The Eagles have been running the wing-t for years. Great Execution doesn't happen over night or in a season. Look around at some of the other high schools in the state, they go through the same thing. Outlandish expectations are clouding your judgement.

I'm not saying that the coach shouldn't be critisized because that is not the case. I will say if he doesn't have a winning season next year after a full season, and two off-seasons to get things correct then he probably shouldn't be coaching. There is no reason the Eagles shouldn't compete next year. The talent level in the school is better than any other schools in the conference year after year but it rarely translated to wins. Coach Turner is going to have to change the attitude. These kids need to have an attitude that they are going to destroy the opposing team. Some of these kids grow up rough, a lot rougher than other student-athletes in the area. They need to bring this attitude to the field.

Somehow, someway they need to get Williams and Bynum envolved more. They are 2 of the better athletes around and the more carries they get the better. The quic offense is good and all but if you don't score running it the opposing team gets a ton of oppurtunities to score series after series. They need to slow it down a little bit.

It's amazing. Seriously WC has too much talent to be blown out like this week after week. They should be competing for a conference title every year.

They will keep him around as long as he wants. I mean if the powers that be are stupid enough to hire him they don't care about the kids anyway. I feel sorry for the players. They should be having fun, instead of having to deal with this guys crazy stuff.

I heard the same thing Keepitreal, from a friend down near Statesville. From the way he told me, everyone though Central would hire him but they choose Turner which shocked everyone.

The real question I have is how long will Turner last? I got a gut feeling it won't be very long.

Is the AD at WC a "yes man" or an idiot? I'd say idiot.

If Skabo made the hire that explains it. His loyalty is to WW H.School, not with the kids from WC and that is an indisputable fact.

That is some funny Chite right there,,,, I dont care who you are. Have you seen WW play this year. If that is loyality then none of the schools need it.

I heard for fact that the current coach from N. Iredell applied. He is a great coach and played for Starmount. The AD from WC is nothing but a yes man, or a complete idiot.

Oh yes Chris Skabo was part of the hiring and interviewing process. Michelle Shepherd was not a part of the that(she was out sick for several weeks, during the interviews). There were several applicants that got interviews with a way better track record than Turner.

As far as I know Shepherd is not the one to hire turner, it was skabo. My problem with the coaching I have seen this year, has as much to do with off the field as on the field. First and foremost you have to have discipline in a team sport AND fairness. Both of which WC is sorely lacking in. Yes, there are rumors that some students have been discipline problems and still have not only played but started every Friday night. While others have sat out a game not even being able to dress out after being involved in a prank in the locker room. Also, some players are at every practice, rain or shine, healthy or sick and get no or minimal playing time. Again, others don't go to practice unless it suits them and still play and start. I know game time is earned in practice, typically, but what I have witnessed this year so far is far from typical. There is too much talent at that school and on that team to be struggling like they are. When you look out at the field and see talented kids either standing on the sidelines or playing their best but making no headway there is no other answer but the coach. I have heard that some of the kids have quit the team throughout the summer program and as recent as last week. It just makes me sad that they feel that is their only option. Players will do what needs to be done if they have respect for the game, their team and the coach, but that is far from happening on that team this year.

We could lock the AD & Coach in a room, blindfold them & make them listen to Ice Ice Baby until they agree to resign.
