West Wilkes Vs North Surry

North Surry's far from a 3A school, it isn't 1985 anymore. Back then they would have been a 3A school but it's not that way anymore. You got to have over a thousand to even come close. They are a solid 2AA.

West Wilkes is borderline 2A right now with North Wilkes. If they have a dramatic drop they could be 1A again and would change things.

Why does it matter if the highway patrolman is on staff? He is by the way but what does that have to do with anything?

Easy there Northfan don't get so bold there buster. If North ran off all the trouble makers, there would be hay stacked in that blue roofed barn on the hump over there.

Wow! Things must have really changed since I went to West! We didn't recruit nor did we want anyone from another school in Wilkes , if you know what I mean. We couldn't get anybody to wrestle us , so it was mostly 3A schools we had to beat. This changing schools did not happen in the late 60's or early 70's.. We didn't even like a coach from another school but sometimes that had to happen.

Once again, pull up the roster. The only ones that don't live in the district have parents that work in the district and they have attended West District Schools since Kindergarten. Get your facts straight. As for the deterioration of the school, really? This school has the most support of any around from the community. Come to any event and then you will see. West is hated when they are having a losing season and despised when they are winning.

Oh and one more thing. If just one player on this West team that wont those 20+ games lives in another District then you can put an asterick * on their season. I'm pretty sure there is. Your season means nothing to me if that is the case.

I have read posts like this for a long time on and off and I am going to put my two cents worth in whether it matters or not. I probably shouldn't but I am going to anyway. I was born in the district. I went to West. I am a true Black Hawk and not a transplant. My Mom went to West and my Dad went to West. No transplant parents here where the mommies and daddies went to another school then sent their kids to West. I'm a true Hawk. Now since you have my background I will tell you how it really is. I have seen this school deteriorate for many years now. Their mindset is driven on greed with little respect for their true district kids. The truth is hard to speak of sometimes but I can assure you that I am ashamed of what West has become. I stopped over a year ago making any donations and until the current path changes I will never donate to the school again nor support them. They have encouraged huge amounts of students to come into the system through the middle school and yes a huge amount of West kids do NOT EVEN LIVE IN THE DISTRICT!. I will not root for a team where players should be playing at North, Central or East. It wont happen. I am not the only one with this opinion, there are many others that talk behind the scenes of how the school has sold it's self out. So take it for what its worth from a true District resident. Most on here that complain never even went to the school.

There are no "recruits" on that team. Get your facts straight. Hats off to the Blackhawks Baseball team for a great season. Outstanding group of players on and off the field. "Over-rated luck" does not win 20+ games. Dedication, hard work, and talent produces 20+ wins.

I got one for ya West. If you had not tried to recruit all these kids to go to your school you would have still been a 1A and probably you would be State Champs. Your politics, daddy ball, friend of a friend etc. got you what you deserved. Atleast at North we may not have that great of ball teams but we are not going to recruit others rejects either. Here's your sign. Idiots. LOL.

Schools are divided into 1A-4A based on attendance. The top quarter are 4A, the next quarter are 3A, the next is 2A, and the last quarter are the 1A schools. There are some deviations, based on a myriad of factors, but by in large, schools in places where there is no real justification for that deviation are placed in their proper classification. The smallest 2A school may play the largest 2A school in the playoffs; either could be two or three students from being the largest 1A or the smallest 3A school, respectively. It is the way the cookie crumbles.

Good luck to both West Wilkes and East Wilkes. According to some in the county, neither should be where they are at. According to some, West was overrated and East didn't stand a chance. Well, guess what....both are still playing and the county should support them both! I think it is awesome that Wilkes has 2 of the 4 high schools still playing for a state championship. Go HAWKS and Go CARDS!!!!

I know the deal , but the bottom line is selection if you have a 1000 students , you will always have a larger group to chose from. Two or three hundred really makes a difference when your playing football mostly. I still believe in equal numbers for all schools and they can do it.
