EXCELLENT!!! I wish there was a place to post great stuff like this other than this crappy site that wants to bring all good things down. That's why I have not seen this sooner. Great job Laney!!!!!!

After being named MVAC MVP for the 2013 track season, Laney had knee surgery performed in Asheville. After 6-7 months of not running a single step, followed by lots of rehab and being redshirted at Western Carolina her first year, she's back in a big way. This morning she ran in her first Southern Conference Championship for Cross Country and ran a personal best by over 30 seconds, 18:34 for a 5K. She just missed being named to the All-Freshman team. The meet host was UNC-G and they ran it on the same course in Kernersville that the high school state championships are run on. She ran the third best time on her team behind 2 seniors and the time was over a minute faster than her time she ran on the same course as a high school senior. According to the Western website, her time places her among the top 20 individual 5k performers all-time at Western. Congratulations to her for such a great performance and a brave comeback. She's always been a hard-working athlete and student. It's my understanding that she has also made straight A's as a chemistry major and was given an award for being the Top Freshman in the Chemistry Department last year. Truly an inspirational girl.
