Hello

Lady Vikings

Posted 6:42 pm, 12/11/2014

I'm not an ex- Lady Viking. I'll always be a Lady Viking. The only song I want to sing is "let him go!" I believe that more will sing with me. Give it time.

You can have North Wilkes boys coach and the principal too. They're a team.

Until people quit going to the games, nothing is going to change.

No, we have just given up hope on this! Marc Payne is not going to fire his guy and the principal is scared to do something about it.

Surprised the Ashe fans haven't started bashing the coach yet. They just lost 2 very winnable games by double figures.

I am a unique poster on this because I moved to the area about 8 years ago, and really do not have a strong allegiance to any of the schools, but I see East Surry more than anyone because of where I live. I go to games all over the 2 conference area that makes up the Northwest conference and the Mountain Valley conference. At some point between last year and this year I have watched every team in these 2 conferences play. What I find most interesting is how most teams from these 2 conferences have adopted an AAU run and gun and press style which I find very interesting. There was a time when the east played this style and the west played a more traditional game of who can out execute the other. Why did this change occur? Is it because the numbers of kids playing AAU has grown or what? I only wish that East Surry and Alleghany still played each other like they did in the past. They both play the same game of grind it out until your knuckles bleed and see who can defend the best. I LOVE that kind of basketball. I drove up to Sparta last night and watched them against Surry Central. Alleghany has not changed their style, but they sure do have a good looking group on the floor. I think they will be hard to handle once they get some practice time in.

Based on what I am hearing, Central will be better. They have won some and lost some. Ashe appears to be better. They have played some tough competition. West winning some and losing some. Hard to say don't know much about the teams they are playing. North, Elkin, and East appear to be struggling. I heard that Alleghany got their kids home Saturday morning from football, practiced on Monday and then beat 2A Surry Central pretty handily on Tuesday night. Always hard to judge based on the preseason because you really don't know much about the teams that everyone is playing, and everything changes when you get into conference play and start playing teams that you have scouted to death and prepared for. Nobody surprises nobody when conference play starts, they know what to expect. I had a friend that went to the Alleghany game and they said they appear to have replaced the whole at point guard just fine. 2 Sophomores and both appear to be ready are taking care of the point, and at one time they had a lineup on the floor that was 6'6, 6'5. 6'4, 6'3, and Sprinkle. That would be hard to guard especially since most of that size is tough football players. This is a much more talented and experienced league this year. I think it is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Well everyone except Starmount is now playing basketball. Has anyone seen enough to have a better feel.

Humble are you now saying that Starmount has an advantage because hey get kids from other parts of the county and kids don't move around in Wilkes. If that is what u r saying then u get a big ole Come on Man

Why in the world would I pull for anyone other than Starmount or Alleghany??

All the other local teams are eliminated.

Of course I pulled for both of them. I spent my $8 to support the Rams.

Central dad and cheer you should be pulling for both these teams from the conference their representing everyone from around here don't be jealous because your team didn't make it.

there will be no state championships won by MVAC teams!

If either Starmount or Alleghany are lucky enough to pull the upset this week, then they will proceed to get destroyed next week.

I doubt either wins tonight, if they do they lose by 4 TD or more next week.

If Wilkes teams could get players from other ends of the county with no consequences it would be different. Hope those East Bend boys help bring you a championship.

That is because the 2 best teams are still playing football, and no one from Wilkes wants to talk about 1A teams dominating the conference!!!!!!

Mikewho

Apparently we will not be discussing basketball this season for some reason

The season is young, just wondering how it is going. North boys winless. North girls undefeated
