Former West Wilkes and Wilkes Central athletes were part of Western Carolina University winning the Men's and Women's Southern Conference Indoor Track Championships this weekend in Alabama. All 3 were part of the point total. Dustin Triplett finished 5th in the Pole Vault and 6th in the Heptathalon. Meghan Breden finished 7th in the pole vault. Laney Browder ran the 1200m leg of the DMR that finished 6th. She also ran her PR in the mile of 5:18, and her PR in the 5000m (5k) of 18:23. Looks like she was one spot away (4 sec) from making the Conference All Freshman team. This was the men's team's 2nd championship in a row and the women's 3rd in a row. Congratulations to all those athletes. If anyone knows anything about other local track athletes in college (there are quite a few), please post their accomplishments.
