@Guru. How would fumbles be weighted in the "by stats only winner?" And you can't award these things based on stats alone because usually the best players stats won't be quite as good as a less talented player due to teams game planning around stopping said player. This is most often the case on defense. It needs to stay the way it is. The coaches need to decide it. They are the ones who know the players the best.

Where did you see the list?

Don't know if they still do this, here's some of the process. Each coach sends in nominations to the president of the conference. Then, other coaches will get a list of all the nominations. They the coaches will write number 1-10 scale beside who they wanted to be all conference or honorable mentions. The kids who gets highest vote count will be all conference (but there's a cut-off) don't know how many in all conference, rest of the kids will be
honorable mentions. They do this the same way has other awards like coach of the year. Again, this might have changed.

The latest understanding I have is that the coaches nominate players but don't actually get to vote for their own players. However, they can "sell" their reasoning behind the nominations. Coaches from other schools can also nominate a player outside of their own team. Their can certainly be some bias among coaches but for the most part, they get it fairly accurate every year. There are some exceptions where players don't get nominated that should or vice versa.

I saw the list of all conference football awards yesterday and it made me wonder how this process is done? There were a couple of kids who I thought deserved at least an honorable mention award that didn't get it. Do the coaches just send a small list of kids off of their team who they think deserve the award? Or do the coaches write in their own votes without prompts from other coaches? It seems to me that this would mean that the coaches biases towards certain players could affect the potential of a kid earning an award. Would it not be more fair to set fair but high standards at each position (RB: total yds rushing or total TD's for example) and then make it mandatory for the teams to keep official stats for the games (because several teams do not keep them or only keep offensive stats) Then the kids performances on the field (where it matters most ) would earn or not earn them all conference awards. Then the highest offensive stat holder would be Conference offensive player of the year (Congrtas Bynum) and same for the defensive player of the year!! Just want your thoughts and opinions.

Because we all know that coaches ALL have their favorites and if your not one of them then I doubt your on the list!!
